Josh has been wanting to try out our bonfire pit, which has been more of a marsh bog since we dug it. What better time then the actual coldest week of the year in Arizona. We were down to a brisk 60 degrees. Well, at least the bonfire cooked the marshmellows that had been going stale in the pantry since Thanksgiving. The kids kept moving their chairs farther away from the fire because it was 'burning my eyes out of my head.'

Not so much for keeping warm....

Look familiar?
Every year Josh in the garden of whatever home are in, trying to reign in the tiller as it goes across the rocky, bumpy, clay-y earth. This year we are starting our first garden in Arizona. It is pretty alkaline soil here so we are going for corn, lots and lots of corn! Kinda fun to start over every year. I sure am grateful for the background my parents gave me in gardening. I gardened their large garden the first year Josh and I were married. Then we missed a season living in apartments in Boise. Then in our Boise home we had two great growing seasons when I learned of inter-cropping. Now, in the desert Southwest, it is like learning a whole new language with a whole new alphabet. Kinda fun to pretend I am a Hopi indian or a garden seed breeder. This year's goal: Grow something before it gets too hot!! or Learn to 'waffle garden' and propagate my own seeds.
